Shade Guard Blend – Premium Shade Lawn Seed for Australian Conditions
Shade Guard Blend is a premium shade-tolerant lawn seed blend professionally mixed in Geraldton, Western Australia by Midwest Hydroseeding & Mulching. Developed for areas where traditional lawn varieties struggle, it combines premium tall fescue, perennial ryegrass and creeping red fescue to produce a dense, attractive lawn in shaded and partially shaded locations.
Perfect for areas beneath trees, along fences, between buildings and around outdoor entertaining areas, Shade Guard provides excellent colour, durability and year-round performance while remaining suitable for locations that receive only limited sunlight.

Sowing Instructions
Step 1 – Prepare the Area
Remove weeds, rocks and debris. Loosen the top 50–100mm of soil and level the surface.
Step 2 – Improve Your Results
Apply Midwest Groundwork Starter Fertiliser before sowing.
Step 3 – Sow the Seed
Premium new lawns: 20–30g/m²
Overseeding: 10–15g/m²
Lightly rake into the soil and water immediately.
Watering
Keep the soil consistently moist during germination.
Water lightly 2–4 times daily until the lawn is established.
Germination
Perennial ryegrass establishes quickly while the tall fescue and creeping red fescue develop into a dense, attractive lawn suited to shaded conditions.
First Mow
Mow when the lawn reaches approximately 70–90mm.
Never remove more than one-third of the leaf blade.
Ongoing Care
Apply Midwest Launch Lawn Fertiliser every 8–12 weeks during the growing season.
Use Midwest Soil Wetter to improve water penetration during warmer months.
