Sowing Instructions
Step 1 – Prepare the Area
Remove weeds, rocks and debris. Loosen the top 50–100mm of soil and level the surface.
Step 2 – Improve Your Results
For best results, apply Midwest Groundwork Starter Fertiliser before sowing.
Step 3 – Sow the Seed
Spread the seed evenly over the prepared area.
Recommended application rates
New Lawns
20–30g per m²
Overseeding & Repairs
10–15g per m²
Lightly rake the seed into the soil or cover with a thin layer of quality lawn underlay or compost.
Watering
Keep the soil consistently moist during germination.
- Water lightly 2–4 times daily.
- Do not allow the seed to dry out.
- Reduce watering frequency once the lawn is established.
Germination
Annual and perennial ryegrass establish first, providing quick green cover while the Kikuyu develops into a dense, hard-wearing lawn as temperatures increase.
First Mow
Mow when the lawn reaches approximately 70–90mm.
Never remove more than one-third of the leaf blade during any single mow.
Ongoing Lawn Care
For best results:
- Apply Midwest Launch Lawn Fertiliser every 8–12 weeks during the growing season.
- Use Midwest Soil Wetter where soils become water repellent or dry.
- Water deeply and less frequently once the lawn is established.
